Business and organisations

Designated venues in certain sectors must have a system in place to request and record contact details of their customers, visitors and staff to help break the chains of transmission of coronavirus. You should create and display a QR code if you are:

  • a business, place of worship or community organisation with a physical location that is open to the public
  • an event which is taking place in a physical location

If you run a business or venue in the following list, you must now display a QR code so visitors can scan it using the new NHS Covid-19 app.

  • pubs, bars, restaurants and cafés
  • tourism and leisure services, including hotels, museums, cinemas and amusement arcades
  • close contact services, including hairdressers, barbershops and tailors (including mobile businesses)

You will still need to offer a manual option for recording visitors’ contact details, for people who do not have a smartphone or do not want to use the NHS COVID-19 app.  Those who may not have access to the app, or the ability to use a smartphone should continue to use traditional contact tracing services provided by NHS Test and trace.
