More support to go smokefree

Sandwell Council is stepping up its efforts to encourage more people to quit smoking with a new support team in place.

The council has started working with Everyone Health as its new provider to support anyone who is ready to go kick the habit and go smokefree.

The number of adults who smoke in England is on the decline but Everyone Health and Healthy Sandwell want to work with anyone in Sandwell who needs support to quit.

Smokers are four times more likely to be successful if they have support whilst they are trying to quit.

Health experts in Sandwell point out that no matter how long they have smoked for, quitting can show immediate improvements to their health.

Everyone Health will be available at sessions across the borough to support anyone looking to quit smoking.

They want to work with smokers as individuals and in group sessions to help people quit – and quit for good!

They will offer advice on preparing for nicotine cravings, dealing with stress as they quit and far more, joining millions of others have already quit smoking.

Anyone interested in quitting smoking should contact Healthy Sandwell through the Healthy Sandwell website or by calling on 0800 011 4656 for more information.

Councillor Farut Shaeen, cabinet member for living healthy lives, said: “Smoking is the biggest cause of preventable death in the UK.

“We are excited about the future that Everyone Health offers Sandwell residents as a stop smoking provider.

“They are determined to work in the best way for the service user so will offer support over the phone and online so that it works best for each individual.”
