What are the effects of sleep deprivation?

We all know that a bad nights sleep can reduce your energy levels, lead to poor concentration and memory and even make you feel a bit more irritable. But what are the long-term effects of poor sleep?

Lack of sleep increases your risk of:

  • Heart problems and strokes
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity and weight problems
  • Suppresses your immune system making you more vulnerable to infections
  • Dementia
  • Long term mood disorders such as clinical depression and anxiety disorders

Overall long-term sleep deprivation can shorten your life expectancy. So it’s important we learn how to maintain a good nights sleep.
