Accessing support

We recognise that a common cause of poor sleep is stress caused by external factors such as financial issues, stress at work, relationship problems and other personal issues. If you are experiencing any of these and feel that they are impacting you negatively or causing sleep problems then it is important to seek help. Healthy Sandwell can offer you mental health guidance.

If you are experiencing poor sleep and the tips and recommendations have not helped, it may be a good idea to speak to your GP. They may run some simple blood tests to rule out any important medical problems. They can also refer you to sleep clinics if they are appropriate.

Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can be useful interventions that can help change your behaviours related to sleep. If you are experiencing stress or worries that may be impacting your sleep, CBT can also be a useful tool to combat this. Speak to your GP for more information.

If you are lying awake during the night and if you are experiencing any feelings of loneliness or anxiety and need to speak to someone the Black Country mental health helpline is available 24/7 on 0800 008 6516

Sleep station is a service which offers CBT for insomnia. You’ll need a referral from your GP to access a sleep clinic on the NHS.

You can find more tips for better sleep on the NHS website or through The Sleep Charity.
