Unit guidelines are now the same for men and women. All adults shouldn’t drink more than 14 units per week.
One unit equals 10ml or 8g of pure alcohol. This is around the amount of alcohol the average adult can process in an hour. As a result, within an hour there should be no, or very little, alcohol left in the blood after drinking 1 unit of alcohol.
The number of units in a drink is based on the size of the drink as well as its alcoholic strength.
