Sandwell Recovery Projects 2025-26

These recovery projects that have been funded by Public Health Sandwell, running until March 2026.

These diverse initiatives aim to support residents of Sandwell over the age of eighteen who are in recovery or thinking about recovery from drugs and/or alcohol.

Each project offers meaningful opportunities to engage in activities that foster personal growth, strengthen recovery, and build lasting connections within a supportive network.

European Welfare Association - Therapy, Creative Workshops, Sport Activities and Family Support

Our project is aimed at people who are in the process of recovering from drug and/or alcohol use. An important part of this is helping not only individuals, but also their partners and loved ones.

The project will support up to 15 people along with their loved ones and will provide therapy sessions, creative workshops, and sport activities.

Friar Park Millennium Centre - Recovery Group

Friar Park Millennium Centre is funded to support people in recovery through a range of activities including:

  • Support groups & meetings.
  • Activities – bike rides, walks
  • Team building exercises.
  • Physical activities in our large sports hall
  • Bakes – making desserts, pizza, bread.
  • Workshops to build self-esteem.
  • Volunteering opportunities in the centre

The Centre is open 9am till 9pm each day and is a warm, safe space where anyone can be supported or listened to any time of day.

Groundwork West Midlands - The Clean Plate Project

A cooking and wellbeing program for people in recovery from drug and/or alcohol use.

It aims to improve participants’ health, confidence and resilience by combining hands-on cookery sessions with nutritional education, peer support and the creation of positive social connections.

There will be eight six-week programs and will be tailored to the specific needs of those in recovery, covering topics such as the role of nutrition in mental health and relapse prevention, managing changes in appetite and digestion during recovery, building positive food habits and daily routines, mindful eating and body awareness and cooking with limited resources.

Headway Black Country

They are providing support for people who are using or in recovery from drugs and/or alcohol who also have a brain injury.

Whether the injury is from an assault, accident, tumour, bleed, stroke or is alcohol or drug related the service can help.

Support includes cognitive skills, daily living skills, art, and music along with abstinence coaching, harm reduction and healthy living. The service also offers counselling services to survivors attending our courses and their relatives.

Ideal for All - Growing Opportunities (Therapeutic Gardening and Cooking) Project

Ideal For All are a lived-experience charity with a range of activities linked to the 5-Ways-to-Wellbeing (Connect, Be Active, Learn, Notice, Give).  Delivered from three Community & Therapeutic Garden sites the project will support people in recovery to:

  • Learn how to grow herbs, flowers and food or start their own allotment.
  • Cook what they grow and eat together.
  • Join one of their groups run by people in recovery – fishing club, women’s group, cuppa, and chat and much more!
  • Access drop-in sessions held three times a week.

The team also have specialists in disability welfare rights and cost of living support, plus volunteering opportunities, work experience and help to find employment/ enhance CVs.

Ideal for All - Women’s Recovery Group

The Women’s Recovery Group offers safe, inclusive spaces where women can connect, share, and build brighter futures together.

Through weekly peer support groups, volunteer opportunities, and hands-on activities including gardening, cooking and crafts, the project empowers women to take control of their recovery journey while reducing stigma and strengthening community connections.

The project will also work in partnership with local services to ensure women have access to the right support at the right time.

Kaleidoscope+ Group – The Revive and Thrive

Project works in partnership with Cranstoun   to deliver the Positive Lives Using Skills (PLUS) programme which includes sessions on:

  1. Managing Stress
  2. Managing Anxiety
  3. Challenging Unhelpful Thinking and Behaviour
  4. Managing Low Mood and Depression
  5. Effective Communication and Assertiveness
  6. Managing Frustration and Anger
  7. Sleep Hygiene and Relaxation
  8. Confidence and Self Esteem Building
  9. Embracing Joy and Happiness
  10. Wellness Planning

The project will also offer additional sessions on:

  • Peer support skills designed to empower and upskill people enabling them to support their peers and their communities by either volunteering or setting up their own support group.
  • Energy Efficiency focused on saving costs.
  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to equip people in recovery with the skills and knowledge to support others in the community. 
West Bromwich Leisure Centre - Free 12-week Leisure Pass

Enabling access to:

  • Unlimited gym use
  • Unlimited pool use
  • Unlimited use of the Sauna/ Steam room for relaxation
  • Unlimited exercise classes
  • 14 days advance booking privileges
  • Up to four junior memberships added.
  • Free use of Swimtag
  • Access to the Places Locker app

Professionals can refer anyone aged 18 or over who is in recovery, regardless of whether they are currently engaged in drug and/or alcohol treatment.

The Salvation Army - Employment Plus Programme

Offers tailored support to help people become job ready secure employment and stay in work through the provision of advice and advocacy support:

  • One-to-ones to improve general wellbeing and confidence and highlight skills
  • Building resilience and setting goals
  • Practical help with barriers such as travel.
  • Positive activities, walking groups, creative activities, and sports.
  • CVs, transferrable skills, enhancing digital skills; access to iLearn learning portal.
  • Encouraging peer-to-peer support using ‘lived experiences’ to motivate and inspire.

The project also provides volunteering opportunities in their Charity Shops, Churches, and Café.

Stepping Stones in the Community – Recovery Project

Provides bi-weekly support group sessions.

These 2-hour sessions provide a safe, inclusive space for individuals from Sandwell to connect, share lived experiences and take part in meaningful indoor activities such as board games, snooker, cooking, skill-building workshops, mentoring support and wellbeing-focused discussions.

Referrals will be accepted to help engage people into employment and education. Saturdays 4pm-6pm, every 2 weeks, until the end of March 2026. (please note these dates and times may change depending on service user needs)

Warley Amateur Boxing Club - No-contact Boxing Program

Welcomes people of all abilities and genders to take part in no-contact boxing sessions.   Delivered across two 1.5-hour sessions per week the project is suitable for people aged 18 and over who are in recovery from drugs and/or alcohol including those who are not currently physically active.

Sessions run from 5pm until 6:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Sandwell Recovery Forum

Building Recovery in Sandwell Logo

The Sandwell Recovery Forum now meets every other month at the location of a different recovery project each time. It is a space for people using services or accessing projects meet with workers from projects and anyone else interested in recovery, to share views and ideas, and to work towards a Lived Experience recovery Organisation (LERO) in Sandwell.

The next meeting is on Thursday 15 August 3.30pm-7pm, at the Jubilee Park Community Centre, with a buffet lunch and the chance to try a Sound Bath taster session.
