A speech and language development check for children aged 18 months to 3 years in Sandwell.
The assessment usually takes between 20-40 minutes and is completed by playing games with your child. If we do identify a need then we can help support you and your child to help improve with our language sessions. You can book an appointment by calling one of our friendly children’s centres.
Please note: If your child attends nursery or school, they do not need a screening as they will do this within their setting.

Cape Hill and Bearwood Children’s Centre

Open to the whole community on a regular basis. They work in partnership with other agencies such as health visitors, midwives and local schools to support children and young people aged 0-19 years old.
To help children get ready for school the services include: family support, health services; parenting programmes and antenatal support; early year’s education services, such as ‘stay and play’ sessions; School readiness sessions and speech and language support and family learning.
In addition, they offer support for parents with adult learning and employment support. This may include language, literacy and numeracy support, family learning, access to apprenticeships and volunteering opportunities as steps toward employment and links to Jobcentre Plus.
