Local services to prevent type 2 diabetes

Nationally there is a great push to help prevent people getting Type 2 diabetes.

The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme  aims to tackle Type 2 diabetes by encouraging people at high risk to change their behaviour and avoid developing the condition.

healthier you

Sandwell residents that are at risk of getting Type 2 diabetes can access the programme for free at sessions that are running across the borough.

The programme involves 13 sessions over 12 months. Some of the sessions are group-based and all of them will be fun and friendly. Furthermore, sessions include top tips to eat better, be more active and how to maintain positive wellbeing.

If you think you are at risk of diabetes, you can take an online assessment to run through some questions. In order to sign up to the free “Healthier You” programme, you need to have a blood test. This can be done at your GP surgery or at an NHS Health Check.

To be eligible for the programme you need to:

  • be over 18 years old
  • not be currently pregnant
  • not already diagnosed with diabetes

The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme can make a huge difference to your life and that of your friends and family.

For more information about the programme you can visit the national page or speak to Healthy Sandwell.
