Why get involved?

Maintaining a healthy weight isn’t just good for your physical health. It plays a vital part in your mental well-being too. If you’re overweight, you’re more likely to suffer medical conditions such as Coronary heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers, including breast and bowel. You are also more likely to suffer a stroke and a heart attack than others of the same age. There is strong evidence that weight issues are also linked to depression.

What is it?

Sandwell Healthier You is a 12 week healthy weight programme.

You will receive an initial appointment prior to starting the programme. You will participate in weekly group sessions consisting of a 45-minute nutrition talk and 45-minute physical activity sessions. Physical Activity sessions range from circuit-based sessions to seated exercises. These are adapted to work at an intensity right for the group and the individual.

Sessions include cardiovascular exercise to increase fitness and stamina and resistance exercise to improve strength and balance.

Any adults 18+ who are overweight or obese with BMI equal or greater than ≥ 30kg/m² (adjusted to 27.5kg/m² in people of Black African, African-Caribbean and Asian origin).
